Civil Partnerships & Marriages

Dec 20, 2012

I was slightly surprised by both set of statistics. I thought there’d have been more of the first and fewer of the second! Anybody else feel the same?

The CSO released the Vital Statistics Second Quarter 2012 report on 19th December 2012.

Some of the key points highlighted in the report are as follows:

Civil Partnerships

  • There were 120 civil partnerships registered in quarter 2 2012 bringing the total for the first six months of the year to 202. There were 536 such partnerships registered in 2011 following the introduction of the Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Act 2010, effective from the 4th January 2011.

Marriages

  • There were 5,421 marriages registered in quarter 2 2012, an increase of 396 from the number of marriages registered in quarter 2 2011 and an increase of 594 from the number registered in the corresponding quarter of 2003.
